with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Alaska.

When searching for lodging accommodations for your Alaska vacation, you may be looking for charm. Or comfort. You probably expect something a bit different each time. But one thing you don't want when you check into a bed and breakfast is a rude surprise.

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Alaska hopes to provide a surprise-free way to know your B&B stay will be a great one. This State Association requires every member inn to be checked and approved.

The inspections are conducted either by our Local B&B Associations or by a peer review system of inspection. They are thorough in scope, covering safety and security items as well as appearance, comfort, and cleanliness.

Jerry Scholand, President of BBAA reports, "Each member inn is required to provide either proof of membership in an approved local B&B Association or a self inspection peer review form on a revolving schedule of at least every 3 years to ensure compliance with our Association standards. In addition, each member agrees to abide by the Code of Conduct adopted by the BBAA. This, in turn, lets guests know that these inns will deliver a consistently clean & safe experience.”

When you’re planning your trip to Alaska, you need only search our member inn listings to find quality travel accommodations. The 2006 BBAA State Site lists over 160 inspected and approved inns. They come in all shapes and sizes (one room to twenty), in all parts of the state. They're all wonderfully different except for one very important thing: the quality of your stay.

It is the policy of the BBAA Standards & Ethics Committee to investigate all complaints received regarding member B&B’s and to allow the member B&B a chance to correct any valid deficiency regarding the Standards and Ethics under which they have agreed to operate. It is the policy of the BBAA not to intervene in any matter regarding monetary disputes or discussions. Monetary concerns are between the individual business owner, the client and/or the financial institution. The complaint must be against a BBAA member and must pertain to health & safety or ethical violations. The BBAA will only accept complaints against non-member B&B’s as a courtesy and will forward the information to the governing agency deemed by the BBAA to be the appropriate agency. No further action will be taken regarding non-member B&B’s. The BBAA will, by request only, notify the complainant of the resolution of the complaint.
